A single rose

When most plants wilted and died in this soaring temperature, the garden turns dull and uninviting. All that's left is a single bloom.

Let's take a closer look.
Such a beauty! Couldn't resist but to bring it inside with me.

And another new bud ready to pop up anytime soon.

Here it is in a bottle inside a bowl filled with rose petals.

I have been craving scones and made some for breakfast this morning. Easy, quick and tasty prune scones. I like my scones less sweet so I can indulge with little guilt.
What do you usually have for breakfast?

How do you like your scones? I love mine with strawberry jam or butter on top.

As an aside note, I recently gave myself a little treat and bought this beautiful teacup. Instead of using a mug, it would be nice to have a sip of hot cocoa out of a teacup.

Sweet surprise

This morning, as I was ready to leave the house for school, I spotted these beauties under a shady tree. Such a sweet distraction, I just took a quick glance as I had to drive my kids to school. So first things first and off we went.
Settled with the kids, I quickly got my camera, went back outside and took a few quick snaps. It was heating up outside and I was all sweaty and thirsty.
It's been a week since my last morning walk in the garden. A bit too hot to stay outside and today it was rather a wonderful surprise for me to find these roses in full bloom.
Keeping them in a shady place was actually a good idea. They apparently love sun but cannot tolerate high heat.
It isn't a good time for them right now, but surprisingly they are still holding up pretty well in this heat.

Not looking their best.The heat affected the flowers and caused the changes in colors.

Notice the edges of the petals, crinkled and slightly burned due to the heat.

Not as bright but still exquisitely beautiful.

New life.... not so promising bloom. It's hard to predict...

....because it might end up like this. Poor thing..

Where has spring gone

Spring has long gone, leaving us with the sweetest memories. How time flies! Summer is back with its unwelcome heat wave. Most plants have faded away and died, some seem to be struggling in the heat. Hopefully they'll survive. I was just going through photos from my spring garden and wanted to share some of them with you here. I hope I would be able to share my garden photos update when the weather permits. Right now the summer heat is just too hot to handle, I'd rather stay indoors.

Roses on Mother's Day

Don't you all just love weekends? I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day. It was a typical busy weekend for us here but rather special. A nice family lunch, 15 beautiful roses (what a pure coincidence! 15 years of being a mother... ) and unconditional love. I couldn't ask for more.

Spring in Vienna

Vienna is one of the places that I've always wanted to visit. And we recently had an opportunity to have a little adventure in this wonderful city. It was a short but totally memorable vacation. Wien/Vienna, is just amazing with many beautiful historic attractions and cultural treasures. We spent our days exploring the city by walking . Vienna has a very good transportation system, that brings you to almost everywhere you want to go. In this beautiful weather, we thoroughly enjoyed walking. Furthermore, our hotel was just within walking distance to just about everything. Even on a rainy day I still enjoyed a lovely walked through the old city. When we got tired, there were always nice cafes to stop at and refresh.
April, is the best time to visit Vienna. It's spring... everything seems so beautiful and fresh.
On the third day of our stay was an absolutely gorgeous day. The sun shone bright, despite the cool air. We took the opportunity to visit a nearby park. We spent half the day strolling along the park and photographing.
