I used to dread summer time in Doha, knowing that this would be an end to my gardening activities, but I've gotten over it. Not that I like it now but I've found a hobby that keeps me occupied and makes me feel lot less depress in the summer. So, instead of mourning how much I'll miss the time spent tending my garden and how much pleasure I got from it, I indulge myself in something that can bring out my creativity.
I love flowers. It's really sad to grow these beautiful flowers only to have them wilted and dying at the end of the season. When I was a kid, I loved to collect cute little flowers and leaves and stuck them in the pages of a book. I remember how happy I was weeks later, only to discover how beautiful and still colorful they were. How wonderful it was to open a book and found between its pages a small spray of flowers, saved with loving care.
I've been reading a lot of articles on pressed flowers but never really have the time to work on it. It's an inspiring and creative hobby that I really enjoy.
A flower press kit that I bought few years back. Bricks or heavy books work well too. A scissor and a tweezer.
3 different colors of periwinkles and some nasturtium.
Jasmine, cosmos and some leaves.
Cut stems close to flower heads. Place flowers face down on absorbent paper. Use tweezer for moving and positioning as they break easily.
My first batch of flowers nicely arranged and ready to be pressed. Depending on thickness and texture, some flowers may need 2 or 3 weeks to dry.
I can't wait to see the result, it has been a week now.
